PEARLAND, Texas — Mark Bautsch was out walking his dog, Shiner, early Wednesday in Pearland and quickly found himself dodging gunfire, according to police.
"Still trying to process it, it was a blur," said Bautsch.
It happened along Inland Drive, which is west of Harkey Road and south of Magnolia Parkway. Bautsch told police he was out for a walk with his dog at around 4:20 a.m. when he noticed the light on in his vehicle and someone in dark clothing standing in the street.
According to police, Bautsch had caught a car burglar in the act and when the suspect noticed him, he fired more than a dozen shots at the victim.
"All of a sudden I see a muzzle flash," said Bautsch.
The victim got behind a trash can for cover. None of the shots hit him, but he did get cuts to his elbow and knee.
"Whenever I ducked there, I stayed behind here for 4 to 5 seconds," said Bautsch.
The suspect got away and headed north along Inland Road. Police said multiple suspects were seen leaving the area in a dark-colored Toyota Camry.
"I don't want this to happen to anyone else," said Bautsch.
According to police, there were several reported vehicle break-ins in the area. From the video, police could tell there were at least three suspects involved.
"That is an extremely dangerous person that does not deserve to be out on the street," said Pearland PD spokesman Chad Rogers. "We need to catch them as soon as possible."
