SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Before the biggest game of their 12-year-old lives, Pearland players are doing everything imaginable to stay loose, including a dance called "The Quan."
"That just gets them fired up," said Marco Gutierrez, one of Pearland's players.
Gutierrez performs the dance before his team leaves their dorm on game day.
"I always like to dance and move around just to make people laugh and get them loose," he said.
"Yeah, Marco has quite a unique dance and we love when Marco gets going," said Coach Joe Deleon. "He told me a little sugar helps that."
Manager Andrew Solomon and teammates say Gutierrez's moves work. However, don't ask them to compare Marco to dancers performing "Hit the Quan" on YouTube.
"No comment," Ryan Farmer said.
"(Marco's) a pretty good dancer I guess," said Alex Solomon.
"Whatever keeps them loose, it's all good," manager Andrew Solomon said. "There's been some dancing, some singing. They're an awesome bunch."
The group hopes to stay relaxed enough to play their best baseball against Pennsylvania in the U.S. semi-final game at Lamade Stadium Wednesday night.
