La Fiebre returns to their hometown for Pasadena's 4th Fest

“It’s just an honor to play for Pasadena. It was an honor when the mayor gave us a key to the city,” said Ayala.

PASADENA, Texas — The City of Pasadena is hosting its 4th Fest at the municipal fairgrounds featuring 3-time Grammy-nominated Tejano group La Fiebre. The band is looking to get back to their roots.

Tejano legends La Fiebre will be taking the stage for the first time since 1987 in their hometown Pasadena for the Fourth of July.

Then, those who watch the show can check out the fireworks display that will be going on afterward.

“La Fiebre is still here. We’ve been doing it for a long time. We are still here, and we are still doing it. To be playing for Pasadena 4th Fest, it’s a big deal for us," said Rudy Rocha.

After nearly 40 years in the music game, Pasadena natives La Fiebre said family is still their driving force.

Rocha, along with Joe Angel Reynosa, started the group as a rock band initially in 1986.

“It’s just an honor to play for Pasadena. It was an honor when the mayor gave us a key to the city,” said Ayala.

The duo switched to the Tejano music scene, bringing Luis Ayala into the fold as another original member.

“I think all of us enjoy being on stage. The performing part of it is a high you get when you’re up there,” said Ayala.

Eighteen years later, La Fiebre completed their act with Julian Gonzalez who plays the accordion and keyboard -- all while keeping a close eye on fans.

“I always try to make sure the crowd’s having a good time. That’s my job as an entertainer, calling out the good songs, to keep them going and keep them energized,” said Gonzalez.

La Fiebre’s is known for playing off how their fans feel at their shows.

“One song that makes that usually makes the crowd go wild is a signature song for La Fiebre is 'Borracho de Besos.' It’s kind of Fiebre’s anthem and we have to play it,” said Gonzalez.

After previously being Grammy nominated twice, their album “Historico” was nominated for best Tejano album of the year in 2021.

“It’s like the most humbling thing. It’s like that needle in the haystack. To get picked, so to actually be nominated, it’s like wow,” said Rocha.

To this band, family means everything.

“Now our grandchildren are supporting us. They say aww that’s JoJo and papa up there," said Reynosa.

Continuing their legacy couldn’t happen, they said, without a special group of lovely ladies.

“I gotta give props to the wives of La Fiebre. They do a great job," said Reynosa.

“You know all the stuff we have to deal with, it’s so much we don’t deal with in the details. They take care of the details,” said Ayala.

La Fiebre performs at Pasadena 4th Fest starting at 7:30 p.m.
