A portion of Terry Hershey Park is closing temporarily while Harris County Flood Control District crews repair bank failures on Buffalo Bayou.
Officials with the Harris County Flood Control District cited public safety concerns as the reason for the closure.
The area temporarily closed is the north side of Buffalo Bayou between Beltway 8 and Kirkwood Drive. The rest of Terry Hershey Park will remain open to the public, including the north side between Kirkwood and Highway 6, and the entire park on the south side of Buffalo Bayou from Beltway 8 to Highway 6.
According to officials with the Harris County Flood Control District, construction crews have repeatedly asked park visitors to stay out of construction areas, but they say dangerous situations involving pedestrians and bikers continue to occur daily.
“We are encouraging park users to explore and enjoy other areas of Terry Hershey Park while construction is underway along Buffalo Bayou in this section,” Russ Poppe, Harris County Flood Control District Executive Director, said in a statement.
Closure in the repair area is effective immediately and will last until repairs are complete.
