NEW CANEY, Texas -- Some parents in New Caney say kids are being forced to hover over the aisle and sit on the floor in an overcrowded school bus.

The bus takes students to and from Keefer Crossing Middle School. Parents believe pictures and video taken on board the bus proves their point.

They say there's just not enough room on the bus for all the kids to fit safely.

"There's three to a seat, on laps, on the floor, all in the aisle. The photos, you can see it. It's all the way from the back of the bus to the front," said father Jordan Williamson.

Jordan Williamson and some other parents say they've tried to vocalize their concerns to New Caney ISD. However, Williamson claims the district has not been responsive.

"They blew me off, brushed me right out the door," explained Williamson. "We've banged our head against the bus barn wall trying to get them to acknowledge the fact that we're upset, and they won't."

The district says it is working out a solution to lower the number of students on board this particular bus.

A spokeswoman said the bus is actually under capacity. She released the following statement to KHOU 11 News:

"The safety of our students at NCISD is our number one priority. Students are never instructed to sit on the floor of a bus. It is against NCISD policy for bus drivers to transport students without all students sitting in a seat. The route in question currently has 68 students. The bus capacity is 78 students. At the beginning of each school year, we work to even out the numbers of students on buses. We are carefully working to balance the number of students on each bus, as needed."
