Woman says packages containing prescriptions get stuck at north Houston USPS facility

Emails continue pouring into our newsroom with complaints from USPS customers whose packages, including medicine, are stuck at Houston-area distribution centers.

HOUSTON — Emails continue pouring into our newsroom with complaints from USPS customers whose packages are stuck at Houston-area facilities on the northside and in Missouri City.

KHOU 11 News has been reporting on the issues for more than a month and we've received over a thousand complaints since Friday alone.

Melinda Martin reached out to us after seeing our story Sunday night.

"I stayed up to watch and sure enough, it was talked about, exactly what I was encountering," Martin told us.

She said her packages containing prescriptions got stuck at the North Houston Distribution Center on Aldine Bender.

Martin said the first package was supposed to arrive on Jan. 10 and the second on Jan. 20.

"When you go to check the tracking on the website for USPS, it shows that both prescriptions are delayed and their location is in Houston," Martin told us.

She was grateful when the first package finally arrived on Monday.

Martin has been getting her medications delivered for about three years now and said she’s never had any problems like this before but it's frustrating and time-consuming.

"You look at the tracking to realize, OK, there's a delay and then you've got to call the pharmacy and talk to them and say, 'Well, you know, here's the problem," Martin said. "These packages are sitting somewhere and stacking up and I know I'm not the only one."

A business owner, who didn't want us to use his name, was so frustrated by the delays that he drove to the north Houston center and took photos. He found hundreds of packages piled up inside.

"Right after Martin Luther King Day, I went there and it was a complete mess as you could see with the pictures," the man told us. "There's boxes stacked up."

What to do if your package is stuck

U.S. Rep. Al Green said anyone who has a package stuck at the Missouri City facility, which is in his district, can call his office at 713-383-9234.

For weeks, KHOU 11 has been following the story about delays of packages through local processing centers. Have you been affected? If so, email us at mailproblems@khou.com. If you have photos of the tracking, please include those, too!
