Triple shooting during Beaumont trail ride leaves 25-year-old Houston man dead

Two victims were found near West Beulah Baptist Church, according to the Beaumont Police Department.

BEAUMONT, Texas — The Beaumont Police Department is investigating a triple shooting that happened during a trail ride in the 6500 block of Bigner road late on Saturday. One person has died, two others were injured, according to police.

Officers were called to an area near West Beulah Baptist Church at 11:33 pm. Officers had to maneuver through a large crowd to get to the two people who were shot.

EMS was not able to get to the victims due to the estimated 1,000 people attending the trail ride, so officers had to carry them through the crowd, according to BPD officer Haley Morrow.

Morrow said two of the victims were taken to the hospital. A third victim was later brought to the hospital in a private vehicle. Rodtravian Perry, a 25-year-old Houston man, died from his injuries. One woman is in critical condition and, another woman is in stable condition.

BPD told 12News they had to call in other law enforcement agencies to help clear out the crowd, which included ATVs, horses, trailers, trucks and other vehicles.

BPD had received multiple calls complaining about the massive crowd throughout the night.

The crowd is not cooperating with the police investigation, according to Morrow. She is asking anyone with any information on this shooting to step forward.

During their investigation, officers arrested 26-year-old Tom Simpson for Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon. BPD said Simpson had a pistol tucked into his waistband, but they do not believe he is connected to the shooting.

Police are working to connect the trail ride to an event that was advertised on Facebook, according to Morrow. The event, called the "Beaumont Night Ride + Field Party," started on Helbig road, which is nearly 3 miles away from where the victims were found.
