NEW CANEY, Texas — Seven students from Keefer Crossing Middle School were taken to the hospital Tuesday after eating gummies laced with THC, New Caney ISD said.
THC, also known as tetrahydrocannabinol, is a compound found in marijuana that is impairing or mind-altering, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The district said the gummies were brought to school by a student.
Parents and guardians of the students who ate the laced gummies were notified, the district said. Those students were taken to Texas Children's Hospital and Kingwood Hospital. It's unknown if they were taken to the hospital because of the effects of the gummies or if they were taken to the hospital as a precaution.
No other information was given as the district said it was an active criminal investigation.
Keefer Crossing Middle School is on Gene Campbell Road near FM 1485 Road.
