Stolen fire truck found stripped of lights, siren, and radio

A fire truck belonging to the Rosehill Volunteer Fire Department has been found stripped of much of its valuable equipment,
A tip was called in to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office late Tuesday, and deputies went to a wooded area on FM 1486 where they found the stolen truck.

ROSE HILL, Texas - This week, a truck with the Rose Hill fire department took its wildest ride yet after someone stole it from the substation where it is normally kept.

The vehicle did not have a tracking device and the station did not have surveillance cameras. Assistant Chief Lee Silecki believes a tip caller make all the difference.

"His conscience was playing on him," he said.

The man told the department where they could find their truck. It is not clear how, exactly, he obtained that information.

Deputies discovered it early Wednesday morning back in some woods, behind a barn and beneath a tarp. It was about 10 miles north of the Rose Hill firehouse, in a place they never would have looked.

"It's missing the light bar, the emergency lighting, the sirens the radios," Assistant Chief Silecki said.

He said it also appeared that the vehicle was being slowly disassembled.

"From what I understand, they were going to try to part it out and sell it for scrap," he said.

Though the truck was found on private property, Silecki said the landowners may not have even known it was there.

No arrests have been made.
