Missouri City senior living apartments without power, had minor flooding during Beryl

Several residents are left in the dark and without cooling. Some are on dialysis, bedridden, and in need of power.

MISSOURI CITY, Texas — Seniors citizens and those with disabilities are among the people left in the dark due to Hurricane Beryl.

Residents of the Jubilee Senior Living apartments claim management is doing nothing to make the residents comfortable while they deal with day two of a power outage.

Some residents are frustrated about the ordeal. One woman said she used bedding and towels to clean up water that got into her unit.

“This is just ridiculous,” Frankie McCoy said in cellphone video she recorded from inside her apartment.

McCoy and other residents have been in the dark since Monday. She said at least three units have been flooded.

“So many people can’t come out because they’re bedridden,” McCoy said.

Some of her neighbors also shared their frustration.

“I’m on the second floor and the water poured out of the air vent onto the stove,” Myrtle Welcome said.

She said she used a bucket to catch the water.

“There’s no excuse for seniors to be treated like this,” Welcome said.

Residents understand CenterPoint Energy must turn the power back on, but they said apartment management has done little to fix other issues. Moisture appeared to be in the ceilings of the hallways, and emergency lights in the hallways were dark.

Residents like McCoy said they aren’t afraid to speak up.

“I’m talking for these elderly people 'cause I can’t move around, but I’m not going to let them fall down these dark alleys," McCoy said. "Who wants to live like this? I’m 57, I ain’t ever lived like this."

A manager on site told KHOU 11 the facilites legal team would respond to our questions about the maintenance issues. We reached out to the management company, Asset Living, for a response. We’ve also reached out to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and we are waiting to hear back.
