Family of mother and son killed in crash involving Missouri City police officer file lawsuit

Angela Stewart and her 16-year-old son, Mason, were killed in the wreck.

MISSOURI CITY, Texas — The family of two people killed in a crash involving a Missouri City police officer is now suing that city.

Angela Stewart and her 16-year-old son, Mason, were pulling out of a driveway when authorities say they were hit by a Missouri City police officer.

The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed the officer was driving 80 miles an hour without emergency sirens or lights turned on.

Both mother and son died at the scene. Another man was in the back seat of that police car. He is recovering and still hospitalized. His family has also filed a lawsuit.

The officer is no longer employed with the Missouri City Police Department after being relieved of duty. Meanwhile, we've reached out to Missouri City for comment on the lawsuit. We’re waiting to hear back.
