Search for missing Georgia girl expanded to several states, including Texas

In addition to Texas, searches have been conducted in other states like Illinois, South Caroline and Tennessee.

HALL COUNTY, Ga. — The search for a 12-year-old girl from Georgia who went missing more than a month ago has expanded to more than half a dozen states around the country, including Texas.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office in Georgia is looking for Maria Gomez-Perez of Gainesville, Georgia, though the law enforcement agency says tips regarding her disappearance have declined.

“The sheriff’s office and our law enforcement partners continue to develop more information from social media, the community as well as all other avenues,” Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch said in a statement. “Our only goal is to find Maria and bring her home. If anyone has information about Maria’s disappearance and has not shared it, I would implore them to contact us.”

In addition to Texas, searches have been conducted in Alabama, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, South Carolina and Tennessee.

“In the sixth week since Maria was last seen, assistance from our community remains helpful in ensuring this case remains in the spotlight,” Couch added. “Whether pledging reward money, organizing signage or sharing fliers, each one of you is appreciated. It is also important to note that scammers have tried to take advantage of this incident using social media. Please remember that the sheriff’s office social media platforms should be your point of reference for legitimate and accurate information on the case.”

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Gomez-Perez is asked to call 770-503-3232 or email intelrequest@hallcounty.org.
