'You're constantly sweating' | Residents at apartment complex in Houston's Medical Center say they've been without AC for 3 weeks

The Life Tower apartment complex is home to many students who attend universities in the Houston area.

HOUSTON — The Life Tower apartment complex in Houston's Medical Center is home to many students who attend different universities in the area. Right now, many of them are frustrated.

“The reason why I picked this apartment is because it's supposed to be luxury whatever. But yeah, it's not really a luxury,” said Tosin.

Tosin is a student who works in the Medical Center. She said she’s been without air-conditioning in her apartment for three weeks.

“It’s 80 right now. It's been 80,” said Tosin.

She’s not alone. Carolina is a student who lives in the complex, too. She told KHOU 11 News it’s been 82 degrees in her apartment.

“It’s very hard to sleep. You know, you're constantly sweating, like you're just sitting down like I’m sitting down still and it's 82 in my room and I’m, like, sweating and sweating,” said Carolina.

Carolina said all 19 floors of the complex are without AC.

“You can feel it as soon as you get in the building,” said Carolina. “When I talk to the front desk, they told me it's a problem throughout the whole building.”

Concern is growing among residents.

“I know some people have asthma and they're saying that they're affecting their asthma,” said Tosin.

The two students said that management said the AC is being worked on.

“We got told that, a part is coming in that we were waiting on that, but, I mean, should have come in by now,” said Carolina.

They’ve been told it could be another week of waiting.

“They were saying that maybe next Monday that it will be fine. But that's still another week without AC,” said Tosin.

One of the students told KHOU 11 News they have tried to ask for compensation for the time without the AC or temporary housing, but nothing has been done.

We spoke to someone in the apartment office who directed us to a rep for CLS Living, which appears to be the property management company. So far, we haven't received a response from them.
