Massive fire destroys home in SE Houston

Clutter in the yard of a southeast Houston home may have hampered firefighters’ efforts to stop a massive blaze early Monday.

HOUSTON -- Clutter in the yard of a southeast Houston home may have hampered firefighters’ efforts to stop a massive blaze early Monday.

The fire broke out shortly after 2:30 a.m. on E. Orem near Foxton.

Firefighters used a ladder hose to knock down a large portion of the flames from above. It took about 45 minutes to get the fire under control.

A woman at the scene said her mom lived at the home, but she apparently was not home at the time. The woman managed to find her mom safe later in the morning.

Arson investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
