PASADENA, Texas - A 20-year-old man was impaled by a pole during a car crash in Pasadena early Saturday morning.
He is expected to survive, according to the Pasadena Police Department.
It happened just after 2 a.m. on Highway 225 at Scarborough.
Police said the man was traveling eastbound on the highway when he lost control, hit a guardrail and slid across the top of a cement wall.
A piece of the piping came off the wall during a crash. The piping smashed through the bottom of his car, went through the bottom of his seat and then through his lower torso, said police.
Firefighters had to rescue the man from the car. He was conscious when he was taken to the hospital by Life Flight and is expected to be okay.
Investigators said alcohol was not a factor. They believe he fell asleep behind the wheel.
