Houston is moving forward on a major redevelopment at the international terminal at Bush Intercontinental Airport.
City Council approved more than $60 million in design and construction contracts for the $1.2 billion Terminal D renovation and expansion project.
It’ll add roadway and curbside improvements, combine security screening with Terminal E and add extra baggage claims. Mayor Turner said the updated plan is a bug upgrade from the original one from 2014.
“It’s a design that has been signed off by United, by the Star Alliance partners. So the airlines, the people that are going to be utilizing the airports, utilizing the terminal, they are much more satisfied with this design than the design that was on my desk when I became mayor," Turner said.
City officials say airline fees, not tax dollars, will pay the tab.
