HOUSTON — Houston drivers should prepare for significant traffic disruptions this weekend as the Texas Department of Transportation prepares to close a portion of the I-610 Loop this weekend.
The westbound mainlanes of I-610 South Loop will be closed from S Wayside Drive to Calais Road. The complete closure will begin Friday at 9:00 p.m. and continue through early Monday at 5:00 a.m., potentially impacting thousands of weekend travelers.
Motorists will need to follow specific detour routes to navigate the construction zone. Those traveling westbound will be required to exit at Crestmont Street, exit 35, and use the frontage road before re-entering the mainlanes after Calais Road. Additionally, drivers attempting to use the westbound entrance ramp from Calais Road will need to access the mainlanes using the entrance ramp after Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Drivers are advised to plan ahead and allow extra travel time during this critical highway maintenance period.
TxDOT recommends that drivers expect delays and consider alternate routes during the pavement repair project. Travelers can find detailed closure and detour information on Houston TranStar for advanced planning.
"Motorists should expect delays this weekend and may want to consider an alternate route," officials warned in a statement. Those seeking more information can follow TxDOT updates on Twitter.
