HOUSTON — Rodrigo López, founder of López Mexican Restaurant, has passed away after a months-long health battle, according to a social media post from the restaurant.
“To all who knew him, Mr. López was the heart and soul of López Mexican Restaurant. And that’s because he put his heart and soul into building it,” a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page said.
López, along with his wife Bertha, opened the restaurant in 1978 with the goal of creating a welcoming environment for all guests.
According to staff, Rodrigo López was known for his strong presence at the restaurant, always greeting customers with a smile and handshake. His commitment to treating every guest like family became a cornerstone of the restaurant’s culture.
“To Mr. López, you were his extended family,” their statement said.
López leaves behind his wife, Bertha, and their children, Jonathan, Jose, and Ana. The restaurant thanked the community for their continued support.
“There are no words for how much we will miss Mr. López and what an impact his loss will have on the López family, the restaurant team, and the community he loved so much. But we are proud to have known him and to have been a part of his incredible story,” the statement said.
