HOUSTON Although he did not have much to say, Oscar De La Rosa spoke publically for the first time on Thursday since he was assaulted outside a Montrose bar in early May.
I feel much better, thank God, De La Rosa said.
The lead singer of the Grammy-winning Tejano group, La Mafia, was apparently assaulted by an upset fan after he declined to pose for a photo.
As a result of the assault, De La Rosa suffered severe lacerations to his face and nose, lost a couple of teeth and it was feared he could lose some sight in his right eye.
KHOU 11 News spoke with De La Rosa and band co-founder Armando Lichtenberger after they paid a visit to the Houston Police Department.
Actually, we ve been advised not to discuss the case, Lichtenberger said. He just came down to give details now that he s feeling up to it, give more details on the case. It s being investigated.
While Lichtenberger said there is a person of interest in the case, no arrests have been made. HPD said the investigation is ongoing, and that it s still in the process of contacting numerous witnesses.
As for the band, it s preparing to go back on tour.
We re doing good, Lichtenberger said. Oscar has recovered well. We are doing our first show this coming week in Midland, Texas. He s ready to get back on the road.
