HOUSTON — Crowds gathered Friday near Shell Energy Stadium east of downtown Houston, waiting to get inside for Vice President Kamala Harris’ political rally.
Harris is set to take the stage, along with Beyoncé, Tina Knowles and Willie Nelson.
With big crowds and temperatures approaching 90 degrees, the Houston Fire Department said some people experienced heat-related issues, including some who needed to be transported to the hospital.
KHOU 11’s Katiera Winfrey was there reporting on the people waiting to get inside. She said she saw some of them taken away by EMS personnel and one person fainted in front of her.
Even with the heat, crowds were enthusiastic about being part of the rally, some who are voting for the first time. Others say they're out there to give voice to their children.
"I have kids who are LGBTQIA," said supporter Laura Coccimiglio. "I have a child who is trans. The laws that are going on right now targeting people for being who they are unconscionable. And we need to fight to stand up for human rights for all humans."
Harris’ rally in Houston comes hours after former President Donald Trump spoke in Austin about border security.
Stay with KHOU 11 throughout the day for updates on Harris’ rally in Houston. We’ll have updates from both inside and outside Shell Energy Stadium.
