LULING, Texas — Three years ago this week, Jason Landry disappeared on his way home from college for the Christmas Break.
His abandoned car and some of his clothing were found on a remote dirt road outside of Luling, Texas. As for the 21-year-old, there was not a trace.
Family members and others connected to the case have not given up, and on Friday they organized a vigil at the site where Landry’s car was found to pray for a miracle.
For Pastor Kent Landry, Jason's dad, it's another Christmas without his son.
“I never in my wildest dreams would think that here we would be three years later,” Kend said. “As a pastor, I’ve walked through the stages of grief through many a family, but unfortunately for my family, we can’t grieve because we still have to hold out hope, and if not hope, you can’t begin to grieve until you know that person is gone.”
On December 13, 2020, Jason was on his way home to Missouri City from Texas State University in San Marcos. For a reason nobody has been able to explain, Jason’s car left the normal route home and ended up along a remote, dark, dirt road.
His car would be found by a passing vehicle that cold, early morning in December. It had crashed into a fence, but there was no sign of Jason.
His disappearance is something nobody has been able to explain, including his father.
“Is this just a one-car accident and a tragedy and we just haven’t found him or is this something else?” Kent asks.
And not far from the wrecked car were Jason’s clothes.
Investigators said it appeared he had taken off his clothes and left behind his belongings, including his wallet and cell phone.
The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office said it appeared Jason got out of his car willingly and that there is no evidence of a crime. However, others believe it’s a possibility.
“I don’t think there’s been a single scrap of anything,” Keny said, whose mind reaches to a more difficult possible ending.
“You have to entertain the possibility that someone might have been involved and he’s not here because he’s in a shallow grave somewhere because of someone,” he said.
