HOUSTON — Jarvon Coles, the North Shore High School football player who was shot during a party, will be laid to rest on Saturday, March 16.
His funeral will be held at The Light of the World Christian Fellowship Church in Humble, Texas. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.
The family is asking for attendees to wear formal attire that is either black, white or red.
The 18-year-old was killed in Humble late Saturday, March 9 during a party inside a short-term rental. Deputies said at least one person opened fire on the crowd from a block away.
So far, no arrests have been made.
Jarvon lived with his grandparents, not far from North Shore High School where he played football and was an 'A' student.
Braxton Coles, Jarvon's grandfather, said Jarvon was a two-time, first-team all-district linebacker who excelled academically.
The pair recently visited Lamar University in Beaumont where Jarvon planned to pursue his passion for football.
"He was like a light in the tunnel," Braxton said. "Everybody loved him. He had absolutely no enemies and it’s just beyond my comprehension that something like this would happen.”
Jarvon's teammates described him as a "ball of joy" who brought the best out of anyone he was around.
"He loved to tell jokes," added teammate Caleb Bailey. "He was one of the smartest people I knew."
Braxton and Jarvon's teammates have pleaded for the gunman to turn themselves in.
"You know, if you are the one, turn yourself in," Braxton said. "How can you sleep knowing what you took?”
Investigators ask anyone with information about this shooting to call the Harris County Sheriff's Office at 713-274-9100 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
