James Harden's JH-Town Weekend charity event kicks off Thursday

The charity weekend kicks off Thursday with back-to-school events at Key Middle School.

HOUSTON — Thursday kicks off the seventh annual JH-Town Charity Weekend.

The former Rockets guard started the charity weekend as a way to give back to the Houston community and to say thank you for welcoming and supporting him.

We sat down with Pilar Donnelly, the executive director of Impact 13 Foundation, to talk about why they’ve kept this event going for so long.

“Use his platform and his resources to give back. So back to school is a huge initiative. During this time, backpacks, school essentials, and food insecurity is a big problem in communities like Houston or other major metropolitan cities. It's not discussed enough,” she said. “But our ultimate goal is to just build the city. Houston is James’s second home. He loves it here. He wants to continue to give back.”

The charity weekend kicks off Thursday with back-to-school events at Key Middle School and attendees will get to see the NBA star in person at the event.

You do need tickets to attend. Those can be found at jhtownweekend.net.
