DEER PARK, Texas — After two Deer Park sirens from the city's outdoor alarm system failed when it was time for residents to shelter-in-place Thursday, city officials say all of them are confirmed to be working.
The city hired a contractor Friday for onsite physical assessments of each siren. In a statement, emergency services director Robert Hemminger said technicians "addressed small maintenance issues" with three of the sirens.
Three sirens were checked first as a result of citizen concerns, according to the city.
These sirens are located in the area of:
• Pickerton/Wisdom/Kalwick
• Aaron Street near East Boulevard
• San Augustine and Georgia
All three sites are confirmed operational at this time.
“Based on concerns relayed to us by citizens, we prioritized three sirens and addressed minor repairs including a low battery, a bad amplifier and blown fuses," Hemminger said. "All issues were addressed and the sirens are again operational.”
People in Deer Park told KHOU 11 they didn't hear the warning sirens alerting them to Thursday's shelter in place. Then, we learned sirens had been down and were scheduled to be replaced.
