'I'll Have What She's Having' fundraiser features top female chefs

"I'll Have What She's Having," Houston's all-female organization of chefs, small business owners, restaurant professionals and physicians raising funds to advance local women's health, invites the community to a unique dining experience to support Houston women's health.

HOUSTON - "I’ll Have What She’s Having" -- an all-female organization of chefs, small business owners, restaurant professionals and physicians -- is planning an April benefit to raise money for women's health services.

The beneficiaries of this first-time fundraiser have a two-pronged objective. The first is to call attention to the facts that Texas has more uninsured women than any other state, and that the health statistics for Harris County are among the worst in the state. Second, IHWSH members are passionate about contributing funds to benefit women who cannot otherwise afford cancer screening and treatment, birth control, STD testing, perinatal care and family planning.

It's called Something for Everyone and it takes place at Evelyn's Park in Bellaire on April 8. It features three acts featuring over 30 chefs and 23 wine and spirit specialists:

April 8 schedule

Amuse Bouche from 4p-6p: $99 includes open access to seven cocktail, beer and wine stations, with passed small bites by up-and-coming culinary stars of the A Taste of Things to Come pop-up series including Kaitlin Steets (T Rex), Madelyn Lester (Nancy’s Hustle), Mary Cuclis (Pondicheri) and Patricia Burdette. Patrons may bid on silent auction items.

Al Fresco at 6:30 p.m.: $250 per basket for 2 featuring a cold picnic dinner with locally sourced ingredients crafted by Barbara McKnight (Culinaire), Janice Schindeler (Words and Food) and Claire Smith (Canopy, Alice Blue). The basket includes re-usable utensils, plates and shopping bag, mocktails, beer and wine. Patrons may bid on silent auction items.

Charitable Feast at 6 p.m.: $500 per person. Three-course dinner prepared by Anita Jaisinghani (Pondicheri), Erin Smith (Feges BBQ), Jamie Zelko (Zelko Concepts), Lynette Hawkins (Giacomo’s) and Monica Pope (Sparrow Cookshop), sourced by local farmers. Sommeliers Vanessa Trevino Boyd and Monica Townsend will curate wine pairings produced by women winemakers and women-owned wineries. Banquet reception opens at 5:30 PM. Live auction begins at 7:30 PM.

IHWSH was launched in 2017 by vascular surgeon Lori Choi to draw attention to alarming statistics on the lack of affordable quality health care for Texas women.

Proceeds will fund essential women’s health services at Legacy Community Health, Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH), The Rose and Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast (PPGC).
