HOUSTON — Wind chimes blowing in the air conditioner breeze is all you’ll hear in Ali Lowitzer’s room these days.
It’s sat silent and virtually untouched since the then-16-year-old vanished.
“On April 26th, 2010, she stepped off the school bus just three houses away and disappeared,” said her mother, Jo Ann Lowitzer.
The mission of Ali’s mother quickly became finding her and overcoming what she describes as ambiguous loss.
“You know, there’s some families out there that have missing loved ones they suspect of being passed away,” said Lowitzer. “But, with Ali and a lot of other missing people, you just don’t know because there’s just nothing.”
Now, there’s something.
It’s in the form of a new music video commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Soul Asylum song “Runaway Train.”
The cover version of the original video also features the photos of missing youth from around the nation, including Ali.
“If you compare it to the original video from the 90s, they say that of the 25 children that were featured, 21 of them were recovered,” said Lowitzer. “So, the chances are really good that we might get some information on Ali that we really need to be able to find her.”
Lowitzer said the video brought her to tears when the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children shared it with her.
She believes sharing it with the world can only help a case that’s grown cold.
“My hope is we’ll find her one day and she’ll come home,” said Lowitzer. “I have to have hope.”
