HPD files charges against suspects accused of killing 4 people
August 11, 2009
The three suspects, Jeremiah (Jerry) Dewayne Arnold, Rasheed Abdul Aziz and Dwayne Eythell have been charged with capital murder. Police say all three of them are currently in prison for unrelated offenses.
Investigators say the victims, Robert Arceneaux, 20, Jonathan Duncan, 16, Quinntin Evans, 20, and Laurie Mitchell, 19, were shot and killed during a robbery in 1992.
A local activist, who often criticizes police, is now thanking them for solving the quadruple murder that had remained a mystery for 17 years.
"I want to thank them for never giving up," said Quanell X.
Quanell X lost his brother, Quinntin, in the crime that took place in a southeast Houston home.
At the time, investigators did not have enough information to charge anyone for the murders. But that all changed in May 2008. At that time, Eythell mailed a letter from prison to HPD's Homicide Division stating that he had information about the killings.
"Eythell was interviewed and admitted to being involved in the robbery and killings," said Lieutenant Roy Walker.
Eythell also provided the names of the other two suspects to the police.
"I thank God that the prayers of my family have been answered," said Quanell X. "Now we know what happened. And all I ever wanted to know was who did it."
