HPD: Man missing after boats crash in Lake Houston

Authorities are responding to a possible drowning in Lake Houston after two boats crashed on Saturday afternoon.

Authorities are responding to a possible drowning in Lake Houston after two boats crashed on Saturday afternoon.

According to the Houston Police Department, a man went missing in the water after the boats crashed.

The man has been identified as 47-year-old Jeremy Niesen.

The incident was reported near the 25700 block of Water Ridge Drive.

"That was a blind side curve crash, you don't know what's coming in the other direction," said Randy Wolf, who lives near where the accident happened.

Family members tell KHOU 11 Robert Ray was at the wheel of the smaller aluminum boat. It collided into the bigger fiber glass boat.

The damage left behind on it is extensive.

"He [Robert] has got several broken ribs, he's bruised up pretty bad," said Adrian Ray, Robert's brother.

Niesen, Robert's friend, fell off the boat after the accident and hasn't been seen since.

HPD Dive Teams went into the water around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, but there's no sign of the 47-year-old.

"They say they can't find him," said Espiritu. "I'm not going to believe it until I see his body, I just can't. We've been together too long."

Espiritu is Niesen's fiancee. She isn't giving up hope. The couple was set to marry later this year. She believes he's still out there.

"He's probably hurt, probably knocked out on the shore somewhere in all that grass, it's why they can't find him, I don't know," she said.

Divers returned to shore Saturday evening with few answers, only to restock supplies and go out again, while friends and family pray for a miracle.

"If this is it, it's a huge loss for a small, close group of people," said friend, Troy Shuford. "We just hope he comes home."

One other woman was sent to the hospital for minor injuries. She's expected to be OK.
