HPD: 2 teens killed in shooting along Buffalo Speedway

The teens were found dead at an apartment complex along Buffalo Speedway between Richmond Avenue and West Alabama Street.

HOUSTON -- Two teenagers are dead after a shooting in southwest Houston.

HPD Assistant Chief H.J. Gaw said during a news conference Thursday night it appears to have been a murder-suicide. Police are not sure which teenager was the shooter.

The teens, both students at Lamar High School according to HPD, were found dead at an apartment complex along Buffalo Speedway between Richmond Avenue and West Alabama Street. They appeared to have been shot to death, according to Houston Police.

On Thursday night, the Houston Independent School District released a statement extending its deepest condolences to both students' family and friends.

The district is making grief counselors available at Lamar to help school administrators and students.

Gaw said during the news conference both of the deceased are 15-year-old boys who were best friends.

Their bodies were first discovered by the mother of the teen who lived at the apartment. She called police around 5 p.m.

The gun recovered from the scene belonged to the family living at the apartment, Gaw said. He added that the mother who made the emergency call indicated her son was going through "chronic mental issues."
