HOUSTON — The Hardy Toll road reopened several hours after it was shut down following a chase that ended in a deadly crash in north Harris County Friday afternoon. The suspect and an innocent driver died from the crash.
According to the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office, deputy constables started chasing a man Louetta a little before 3 p.m. Constable Mark Herman said the man was driving a stolen car and refused to pull over.
The suspect in a silver car got on the Hardy Toll Road where he was going the wrong way at speeds up to 90 mph.
They used a pit maneuver to try and stop him.
"We got a flat tire he is riding on a rim. We are passing up 1960," they said on the police scanner.
They tried to shut down the toll road but it was too late.
The suspect slammed head-on into another vehicle near Rankin Road.
"Possibly a fatal involving a civilian vehicle," the deputies said on the scanner.
A woman driving the other vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, Herman said. The constable said the driver of the stolen car was taken to an area hospital where he later died.
The road was closed for hours and traffic was rerouted along the Hardy Toll Road where the chase ended.
