HOUSTON — We're celebrating a very special day. Friday was Houston's 188th birthday.
That's right -- H-Town was founded on August 30, 1836, by brothers Augustus Chapman Allen and John Kirby Allen near the banks of the Buffalo Bayou.
Since then, Houston has grown to the fourth most populous city in the nation. It's also the most ethnically diverse metropolitan area in the United States, with at least 145 languages spoken by city residents.
We have been leaders in space travel, medical innovation, and, of course, culinary diversity.
Another fun fact -- It's also home to the Katy Freeway, one of the widest freeways in the world.
