HOUSTON — Houston Mayor John Whitmire on Wednesday claimed Iran paid for pro-Palestine protests outside his home, but could not offer any proof. He said the intelligence came from law enforcement agencies like Homeland Security.
"The same activists that were there Friday night and actually Saturday morning, they were at council yesterday," Whitmire said Wednesday.
The mayor's comments came after Houston City Council voted to move forward with a proposal that would restrict protests near private residences.
The council's Public Safety Committee will now discuss the ordinance further.
