Houston City Council to consider $13.5 million Memorial Park Golf Course renovation

Houston Astros owner Jim Crane is working with the Astros Golf Foundation and the City of Houston on the plan, which would bring the Houston Open tournament back inside city limits.

HOUSTON - Houston City Council will consider approving a $13.5 million plan to renovate the Memorial Park Golf Course.

Houston Astros owner Jim Crane is working with the Astros Golf Foundation and the City of Houston on the plan, which would bring the Houston Open tournament back inside city limits.

In the proposal, the foundation would commit to paying a $250,000 annual tournament fee to the Memorial Park Conservancy and $750,000 to the Houston Parks and Recreation Department.

The golf course would close during renovation, scheduled to begin next month, pending permit approvals, with a planned reopening by Fall 2019. The plan includes construction of a two-story driving range, a new and relocated maintenance facility and a short course for the First Tee.

City officials say the improvements to the course will not result in a fee increase for users.

City council will consider the approval request on Jan. 2, 2019. For more information on the proposal, tap/click here.
