HOUSTON — On Wednesday, we heard what the Astrodome Conservancy wants to do with the Dome. Now Houston rapper Paul Wall is weighing in.
On Thursday, Wall shared a post by Astros writer Michael Schwab, who suggested it may be time to tear down the Astrodome and rebuild AstroWorld. As many longtime Houstonians know, AstroWorld was the amusement park that used to sit across 610 from the Astrodome. It closed down in 2005.
Wall saw Schwab’s post, latched onto the idea and took it a step further, saying it’s an idea he would support. Wall even tied it into the Houston Texans as the perfect place to tailgate when the team played home games.
That’s a bit far off from the plan the Astrodome Conversancy put forward. They introduced a $1B renovation of the iconic building, including $250 million for a public events arena and $740 million for commercial real estate.
Part of the plan includes a boulevard that runs through the Astrodome, connecting NRG Stadium and NRG Center.
You can read more about that plan and how it would be financed here and see renderings below.
