HOUSTON — Move over, 713. You, too, 832, 281 and 346. You may need to make room for a new area code. That’s because of how fast the Houston area is growing.
According to the North American Number Planning Administration – or NANPA – the existing area codes that cover the Houston area could run out of number combinations by the third quarter of 2025.
The Public Utility Commission of Texas is taking public comment on NANPA’s petition for a new area code.
According to the PUC, the new area code would overlap with the existing area codes in the Houston area, but wouldn’t affect phone numbers of existing customers.
If you want to file a public comment on a proposed new area code for the Houston area, a form to do just that is available here.
