HOUSTON - The Houston Fire Department's high water vehicles are ready to rescue anyone in need as strong storms move across the Houston area Friday night into Saturday.
Between rescue boats and a brand new high-water truck, first responders with HFD are ready to reach those who may be trapped by high water.
Station 84's newest truck is capable of driving through 3 feet of water and carrying up to 18 people.
It's a life-saving piece of equipment firefighters say is essential. The station where the truck is kept is located in Greenspoint, an area prone to flooding.
"This equipment will be staffed, ready to roll out and we'll already be patrolling the area looking for people in distress." said Joshua Vogel, Sr. Captain HFD Marine
For those who can't climb the ladder on the truck, it has an automated lift, making it handicap accessible and easier for crews to rescue those in need.
Strong storms are expected to move through the Houston area late Friday night into Saturday morning.
Street flooding is possible as parts of our area get 4 to 10 inches of rain. Make plans now to stay off the roads overnight as a precaution.
