HOUSTON — There’s a big change for an iconic feature of Houston’s Hermann Park. The railroad, which has been in the park for nearly 70 years, has two brand new electric locomotives.

The Hermann Park Conservancy posted about it on Friday with photos of the new locomotives. The locomotives, named the ExxonMobil Express and the Dr. Jack Express, were gifted by ExxonMobil and the John P. McGovern Foundation.

They were put on the tracks earlier this week and rides on them are free at Hermann Park through Friday, Sept. 6.

According to the Hermann Park Conservancy, since they took over train operations in 2008, more than five million riders have circled the park on the locomotives there. They said it brings in more than $1.2M each year to preserve and improve Hermann Park.
