HOUSTON — Neighbors in west Houston are asking for help finding the driver who hit a little girl last week. They said the driver didn't stop after the hit-and-run happened in the Afton Oaks neighborhood.
Many people have come forward with surveillance video hoping to find that driver.
“It was awful, in short,” David Montgomery said.
Montgomery said his daughter, Harper, watched her 9-year-old friend, Alex, get hit by a car last Friday.
Montgomery and private consultant Wayne Dolcefino spoke on behalf of the victim’s family with hopes of finding the person responsible.
A neighbor’s surveillance cameras captured the scary moments when you see Harper with her friend, getting out of their nanny’s car around 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two were crossing the 4600 block of W Alabama Street.
“I didn’t know it was going to hit her, so it came speeding through and hit her and she, like, broke her leg,” Harper Montgomery said.
Houston police were called to the scene. Surveillance cameras capture the aftermath, including the nanny getting out of the car to help the girl. A neighbor who lives across the street came to help.
“She was in shock and trying to help her and call 911, too, immediately after Alex got hit, she hopped out of the car and was kind of panicking,” Gavin Johnson said.
Neighbors provided surveillance photos and videos to Dolcefino. The vehicle is described as a newer model, dark-colored Mercedes Benz SUV, possibly a GLE AMG Class 53.
“We're hoping that another camera may have captured the image of the license plate since, obviously, this person is a coward,” Dolcefino said.
Montgomery said his daughter, a cheerleader, visited Alex in the hospital. He’s hoping the person responsible for hurting his daughter’s friend comes forward.
“This is a neighborhood with children in it, passersby, people walking dogs, and riding bikes. It’s really shaken me and my family to the core,” Montgomery said.
According to Dolcefino, neighbors and family members of the victim are offering a $10,000 reward to find the driver.
