HOUSTON — A 25-year-old Houston man was sentenced to life in prison after he was convicted of a 2021 aggravated robbery.
Jerome Moore must spend at least 30 years in prison before he becomes eligible for parole.
After he was convicted of aggravated robbery in a seven-day trial, he chose to have a judge determine his sentence. In order for that to happen, prosecutors in the case revealed all of the evidence against Moore in half a dozen armed robberies in the Galleria area as well as a triple murder in the Fourth Ward.
Triple murder
On the Fourth of July in 2021, Moore showed up at a block party with the intention of killing a rival gang member. He opened fire on the outdoor party and ended up killing three people.
The shooting happened as the Freedom Over Texas celebration was happening nearby.
Moore killed three men and wounded two other people, including a 10-year-old boy.
"This case shows the scale of damage and destruction that just one person can inflict on a community," Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said. "A Harris County jury convicted him and a judge sentenced him — we were able to hold him accountable and get justice for all of his victims."
Armed robberies
Moore also took part in a crime spree that included six armed robberies in the Galleria area.
The one that he was convicted of happened on April 5, 2021.
"This verdict and the life sentence send a message to this small group of criminals who tried to hold our community hostage: Their game is over," Assistant District Attorney Keaton Forcht said. "The Galleria and the surrounding area is somewhere we can all go and enjoy ourselves — that’s the message this sends."
