HOUSTON — Creativity was on full display in downtown Houston Saturday as hundreds of uniquely decorated vehicles rolled through town for the annual Art Car Parade.
This is an event that dates back to the late 1980s. It started with just local artists and has morphed into the biggest event of its kind in the world.
Organizers say it's about freedom of expression and creativity. Spectators love it. It's something they look forward to witnessing every year.
"Well, we wanted a family event, somewhere to take the littles," said Shelbe Rodriguez, who attended Saturday's parade. "You know, it's free, we get to see a little bit of the city."
"It's amazing, all the creativity and it's just great to see Houston come out all in one day," added attendee Omar Auzenne.
There were art car events happening all week with festivities set to wrap up Sunday afternoon with the Art Car awards ceremony. It's taking place at the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art starting at 11 a.m.
