HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — There is a new push to raise the minimum wage for people who work for Harris County.
Labor industry leaders will join Harris County Precinct 1 Commissioner Rodney Ellis at the Commissioners Court Tuesday morning to ask officials to develop a policy to pay county employees and contractors at least $15 an hour.
This would also include grant-funded and temporary employees. They also want a new plan to increase that minimum wage over time.
The agenda item calls for:
- The county administrator to develop or update policies to apply wage standards to all employees regardless of how their positions are funded
- Ensure a living wage and not permanently plateau at a $15 minimum wage
- Include wage standards for workers on contracts beyond vertical construction
- Increase transparency in worker wages and classification
