Multiple injuries reported after flash fire at Kinder Morgan storage facility in Galena Park

The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office said the flash fire broke out at a Kinder Morgan facility on Clinton Road between Fidelity Street and Federal Road.

GALENA PARK, Texas — Three people were injured Friday when a fire broke out at a storage terminal in Galena Park, according to the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office.

The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office said three people were taken to area hospitals in unknown conditions, though they were all conscious. Authorities said the contract workers suffered burns.

The fire marshal's office said the flash fire broke out at the Kinder Morgan facility on Clinton Road between Fidelity Street and Federal Road.

Facility officials said the fire broke out while crews were performing maintenance work near one of the facility's rail racks. Rail racks use small-diameter pipelines to move product to loading areas to be placed into rail cars.

Officials said the fire was extinguished and investigators were working to find out what caused the fire.

Here's raw aerial video of the scene:

Kinder Morgan issued this statement:

"At this time, the impacted portion of the rail rack remains isolated and shut down. Local emergency responders are on site. No product has been released as a result of this incident.

"All appropriate regulatory agencies have been notified. An investigation into the cause of the incident will be conducted, and we currently do not expect any customer impacts."

I am so sorry to hear about the three Kinder Morgan employees who were injured with varying first through third-degree burns, and I hope they will make a full recovery.  Our investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire, which has been fully extinguished. Thank you to first responders, Harris County Pollution Control Services and the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office for their quick response.”
