HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Three people were found dead with signs of foul play in a Cypress-area house fire in which arson is suspected, the Harris County Sheriff's Office said.
This happened on Plains River Drive in the Cypress Mill Park community. The Cy-Fair Fire Department responded to the scene around 7 a.m. Firefighters suspected the fire was arson-related and contacted law enforcement after discovering the bodies.
The victims were all adults and lived in the home. There were two women and a man. Authorities said the man was the son of one of the women. One of the victims was found downstairs and two were found upstairs, according to HCSO.
"We are able to release that one of the females is the mother of one of the males. We can't determine at this point if the male and other female had a relationship, but we can determine it was a mother and son that lived inside the home and they did live there," said Maj. Saul Suarez.
HCSO estimates the mother could be in her 50's and the other two victims could be in their 20's or 30's. HCSO said the bodies showed signs of foul play and trauma. According to detectives, some type of accelerant was used in the fire.
Speaking with detectives in the afternoon, they said they had some leads.
"We have been able to secure some evidence and security video from around the neighborhood," Sgt. Michael Ritchie with HCSO homicide told KHOU.
The case is being investigated by the sheriff's office and the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office. Investigators were canvassing the area to gather witness statements and any potential surveillance video.
There's no word on a suspect.
