CHANNELVIEW, Texas — Rising water continues to threaten neighborhoods that have flooded in Channelview.
Residents on River Road said the levels dropped a foot overnight, but Sunday morning's storms pushed those levels right back up.
The constant flow from the dam release hasn't helped.
On Saturday, Rescue teams helped take more than two dozen people to safety in the east Harris County community while others chose to wait it out. They're already surrounded by water and are worried about the next round of heavy rain.
"It’s very scary," Timothy Douglas told his "I’m threatened every time this water comes up."
His trailer is near the San Jacinto River and he's been keeping a close watch on the levels.
"See that stick? That’s where the water came to," Douglas said.
He said people in the area don't have much to begin with.
"They’re losing a ton of stuff," Douglas said. "I mean, some of these people, they’re really hurt."
Across the street on Tim Hill's land, the water hadn't gone down yet so he's glad he got out on Saturday.
"I got everything that was a really big importance of mine out and most people didn’t," Hill said. "Some people don’t have the ability. They only have what’s on their back, so they stay."
Water damaged some of his tools and seeped into his trailer.
"That was the last thing I was gonna pull out, but it got too wet," Hill said. "That’s nothing I can’t replace so I’m not worried about that."
Just up the road on Meadowbrook, rescue teams pulled 10 people and their pets from flooded homes on Saturday.
"Thank God for the rescue yesterday because it was a while before they got here," Hill said.
He said most folks know how to handle the flood threat and are often willing to risk the forecast being off. But this time, it was more than they expected.
