HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Harris County is home to the most Mexican restaurants in Texas, according to an analysis by Pew Research Center.
Meanwhile, Texas (17%) falls just behind California (22%) with having the most Mexican restaurants in the entire country, the research shows.
In Texas, 17% of the state’s Mexican restaurants are in Harris County -- following behind are Bexar County and Dallas County at 9% each. In California, Los Angeles County is home to 30% of the state’s Mexican restaurants.
There are 2,362 Mexican restaurants in Harris County and 5,484 in Los Angeles County.
According to the analysis, 11% of all restaurants in the country serve Mexican food.
The analysis found that 22% of Mexican restaurants around the country are considered fast food -- 12% of those restaurants specialize in serving tacos, 8% are food trucks or carts and 6% offer “Tex-Mex” food, according to the research.
