H-E-B's Houston snack plant to open mid-2019

The grocer's only other snack plant is in San Antonio. It manufactures potato, corn and tortilla chips 24 hours a day in a 40,000-square-foot space, according to its website.

In late September, San Antonio-based H-E-B Grocery Co. began building a new snack manufacturing plant in the Bayou City. A $3 million construction permit was filed at the time for the foundation and site work.

Another $18 million permit was filed for the plant in May, and the facility is expected to open by mid-2019, a spokesperson said. She added that the second permit is for the plant’s processing equipment.

Testing at the 64,000-square-foot facility is planned to start at the end of 2018, the spokesperson said. The project's general contractor is San Antonio-based Joeris General Construction, and the architect — who was contracted by Joeris — is San Antonio-based RVK Architects.
