HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — The Harris County District Attorney's Office, along with the Houston Police Department, will be giving away free gun safes and locks in Midtown on Saturday.
The giveaway will start at 11 a.m. at the Crime Stoppers of Houston building, located at 3001 Main Street. One safe will be given out per household on a first-come, first-served basis.
In addition to the giveaway, the event will include presentations on the importance of weapon storage and a tutorial on how to use gun safes and locks.
“With the holiday season in full swing, kids are home from school or visiting friends and family, and that means ensuring firearm safety is paramount,” District Attorney Kim Ogg said. “Amidst the festive season and celebratory visits, securing our firearms is crucial. We must ensure that our weapons are safely stored not just in our homes but anywhere children may be, including cars.”
