HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Larry Enzler said he's left with one puppy after two others were stolen from right in front of him.
The dogs were French bulldogs, a popular and expensive breed.
"A man called me and said he would like to come over to see the puppies to buy them," Enzler said.
The caller said his disabled wife wanted to see the pups and she was waiting outside in their car.
"I picked up two puppies, put them in his arms and walked to the door. I walked over to the back door and saw him throw them in the car and just take off," Enzler said. "He knew I was an older person and I couldn't give chase."
Enzler's caretaker and longtime friend, Laura May, said Enzler, who's 83, had been in contact with the person who took the dogs for several days. She said she thinks he heard about them through word of mouth.
"I walk in the house and he's frantic, telling me somebody stole the dogs, somebody stole the dogs," May said.
Enzler considers himself a dog lover who trusts people, but now he feels like he was taken advantage of because of his age.
"When you're an honest person around honest people, you don't expect something like that to happen in your life," he said.
He said he's not sure how the man was able to get in contact with him and he's offering a reward to get the puppies back.
"I just hope they have a good home and I'd be willing to pay $5,000 to get them back," he said.
He's left with one puppy and the mama dog and is still hoping to find the little one a loving home.
Enzler said he thinks the puppies might have been sold and he's asking anyone with information to come forward.
