Former Houston Police Chief Troy Finner says he was forced out of job, Houston Chronicle report says

In a report by the Houston Chronicle, Troy Finner said he was forced out of his job in an attempt to bury the HPD "suspended cases" scandal.

HOUSTON — Former Houston Police Chief Troy Finner recently claimed he was forced out of his job with the Houston Police Department.

It was revealed in an interview with the Houston Chronicle.

Finner said he was forced out in an attempt to bury a scandal.

He said it was an effort to cover up the fact that HPD suspended more than 250,000 cases by labeling them with a "lack of personnel" code.

Finner told the Chronicle that when he was chief, there was transparency and regular updates into the investigation.

Now, he said, that's not the case.

Houston Mayor John Whitmire said Finner's claims aren't supported by facts. He released a statement that said, in part, "I can't say what motivated him to make such allegations, but I'm personally disappointed he has. I look forward to releasing a thorough report to City Council and the public next Wednesday."
