Flooding closes major route out of downtown Houston
Street flooding has closed a major route out of downtown Houston during Thursday’s rush-hour commute.

HOUSTON – Street flooding closed a major route out of downtown Houston during Thursday's rush-hour commute.

The Interstate-45 northbound HOV express lane ramp on Travis Street was shut down due to high waters in the area. Heavy rain backed up the White Oak Bayou and Buffalo Bayou and manhole covers were lifted in the area.

Raw sewage could be seen spewing out of the manhole covers.

Traffic was also being diverted at Commerce Street and Travis Street and Commerce Street was closed at Milam Street.

Police officers were on hand directing people on which way to go.

The rainwater was receding from the area Thursday night.
